Xmas Gift Can Help Increase the Life of Dock Lines

Finding unusual and useful gifts for the holidays always seems to be more difficult than it should be. To make things easier for boaters, Davis Instruments offers Secure Chafe Guards.

Secure Chafe Guards are made of marine-tough nylon and wrap around lines where friction with cleats, cap rails, anchor rollers or other lines may cause excessive wear. They are available in two versions. One is removable and adjustable, and the other is permanent.

The removable model has Velcro brand hook fasteners along the entire interior and requires no additional ties. Its versatility lets the boater move it if line positions change. It fits lines from 3/8” to 7/8” in diameter, as well as some 1” lines.

The permanent guard is secured to lines with cable ties threaded through holes that the boater punches in the ends. This model is ideal for use at a dock cleat or on a mooring line where chafe often occurs in the same spot. The permanent guard is suitable for 3/8” to 1” diameter lines.

Suggested retail price of a pair of Secure Removable Chafe Guards is $26.95. A pair of Secure Permanent Chafe Guards costs $14.95. Both prices are for 2002. Contact info@davisnet.com.

Lubricant in a Tube Can Be a Boater’s Best Friend

Most marine equipment that incorporates zipppers, snaps or hinges will eventually begin to give a boater a hard time simply because of the nature of the environment. Over time, corrosion, dust, grime and salt can make these closure devices stick, often causing the surrounding canvas or plastic to tear or crack. All it takes to smooth out these problems is a dab of Shurhold Industries’ Snap-Stick lubricant.

Unlike gels, liquids or sprays, Snap-Stick can be applied directly to the head of a snap, along a zipper or on the barrel of a hinge without messy dripping or overspray. Its special ingredients are both non-toxic and biodegradable and won’t harm fabric, plastic or metal. A single application from Snap-Stick’s tube, which resembles a glue stick, may last for up to 3 months, making it highly economical, too.

A .45-ounce tube of Snap-Stick lubricant retails for $4.48.
