Northern Breezes and Shorewood Yacht Club bring you a first class opportunity to sail on beautiful, prestigious Lake Minnetonka just minutes from Excelsior on the main lake. The boat club offers you hassle free sailing without maintenance, insurance, ownership or slip fees. Just reserve the boat and go sailing! Best of all it is affordable!
 
The Shorewood Yacht Club facilities offer a beautiful club house with full amenities including decks and lawns with barbecue picnic options, fireplace for chilly evenings, full kitchen, bath and shower facilities for your overnight or weekends on the lake. Shorewood is a quiet secluded marina with the best all weather protection on Lake Minnetonka. Your full boat club membership includes a "full" SYC membership. You will be invited to participate in social, cruising and club racing events.
 

The Ensign is an ideal family and friends boat. Our boats are equipped with roller furling genoas and mainsails with adjustable topping lifts for ease of use. They also have reliable 4-stroke outboard engines.

Our fleet consists of a Pearson 26 and two 23 foot Ensigns with a third Ensign in back-up. The Ensigns are the same boats which we use for our basic keelboat classes. They have huge cockpits and they have been rigged to be easy to sail. The Pearson 26 is also a very easy boat to sail and it has a roomy interior for younger children. Best of all, these boats are very well maintained.

 Regular Full Membership. This is unlimited uses with guarantees which are usually used around holiday weekends. This is the most popular and common membership. This membership level includes a full Shorewood Yacht Club membership. $1,995.
 
Six Use Membership. This limited membership level is for six uses. It fits very busy folks who want to get out on the water without hassles but know they will not use and therefore need a full membership. The prerequisites are the same as for full membership. This membership level does not include full membership in the Shorewood Yacht Club. $1,295.
 
Three Use Membership. This is a very limited membership level. It fits folks who want to sail a few times but their schedules preclude a more active membership. This membership level replaces day rentals which are cost prohibitive for insurance and other reasons. The prerequisites are the same as the other two levels. No membership in Shorewood Yacht Club is included in this membership level. $695.
 
While we are obviously more comfortable and happier with full, unlimited boat club memberships, we strive to give every customer the same high quality service. Our boats and facilities are maintained to the highest standards.
 
What we want from you:

  • Be a graduate of Northern Breezes Sailing School's ASA Basic Keelboat course, or . . .

  • An equivalent course (preferably ASA Basic Keelboat) on the right size boats, or . .

  • Equivalent and current experience.

  • A check-ride may be required. $75 Minimum.

More details about, "How it works":

  • A use is defined as a time window. We use three time windows: 0800 - 1200; 1230 - 1630; 1700 - 15 minutes before Sunset.

  • Reservations for uses are done through our web site. We provide you with a Password and ID number. You can make reservations up to two weeks in advance. You will receive an email confirmation of your reservation which is also sent to the office. You will notice that the Ensigns are reserved by Northern Breezes Sailing School for class times. We cancel school reservations if classes are not viable ten days before the first class session.

  • We provide all boat club members a booklet with detailed checklists and instructions on how to operate each of the boats and in particular the outboard engines. If all else fails, we provide a couple of phone numbers to call.

  • We hold a facility and boat indoctrination for all members each spring and for each member who signs up for an annual membership during the season.

  • Feedback forms are emailed to you with your reservation. Please tell us anything which is wrong with a boat, dock or the facility. This helps us keep your experience happy and pleasant!

  • At the full membership level, you have "full" access to the Clubhouse facilities and grounds. You will receive mailings and email regarding Shorewood Yacht Club social events and club racing events. Don't let the word "racing" inhibit your participation. There is a massive difference between a Championship Golf Course experience and a friendly Club experience for example. At the sailing level, this is a friendly "Club" experience.

  • At the six use and three use boat club levels, your access to the Clubhouse facilities and grounds is limited to the restrooms and docks leading to the boat club boats.
