Bob Chinnock
Bob and his wife started sailing in 1982 when they
purchased a Sunfish and learned to sail it using the
‘trial and error’ method.
They completed a series of lessons in 1985
learning to sail keel boats on Lake Minnetonka.
A Catalina 22 was purchased in 1987 so that
their two infant sons could safely sail with them.
This was followed by several charter trips
with friends to the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior
along with sailing of the Catalina 22 on Lake
Waconia and the St. Croix River.
After the third son was born it was
determined a larger boat capable of overnight stays
was required and the Catalina was traded for an
O’Day 26.
Much time was spent sailing on Lake Waconia
with friends and family with a few additional trips
to the Apostle Islands.
As the three boys grew the desire for
sleeping arrangements on the boat was traded for
more performance sailing and the O’Day was replaced
with a 6.9 meter S2.
Eventually, one of the sons began working at
Shorewood Yacht Club on Lake Minnetonka and the S2
was moved to Lake Minnetonka.
Bob completed his instructors certification
in May, 2009 and looks forward to sharing his
knowledge and excitement of sailing with future
students.
