Final results of the EDHEC Sailing Cup
The 46th EDHEC Sailing Cup is now over. After one week of races in various condition, the largest intercollegiate offshore regatta is finish.
Les Sables d’Olonne, May 4. The largest intercollegiate offshore regatta in the world was held from April 25 to May 3 2014 in Les Sables d’Olonne. It gathered around 3,000 participants including 1,500 college sailors.
12 qualifying races have been held during the week plus 2 races Saturday May 3 for the final. 2 Race circles were organized all along the week. One dedicated to the 4 National Handicap OSIRIS groups, and the other one to the 3 One Design Classes represented: Grand Surprise, J/80 and Longtze.
Two final were organized, the GANT Final for the Overall ranking that gathered the top 15 boats of the Overall Ranking on Grand Surprise. The other one was the 100% Student Final, which gathered the 9 first crews composed only of students on Longtze.
Since the two event are partners, the winner of the 100% student final is invited to participate cost free (except transportation) in the IOR (Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta) held October 11,12 in New York. This year it is the French team “Art et Metiers Groupe Atlantique” that won the title.
This year 4 international teams (out of 23) participated in the Final. Two of them were US teams. Tuft Jumbo team finished 2nd of the Student Ranking and the other was Georgetown. Georgetown is the winner of the last edition of the IOR and participated this year in J80. As Grand Surprise for the final need more persons, they completed their team with 2 crew members from Tufts. Finally they are ranked 10 of the Overall Ranking.
The 2 other international team qualified for the final were HEC Lausanne, defender of the student ranking who finished 4th of the Overall Ranking this year and Luc Voile from EPFL (Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne) who finished 8th of the Overall Ranking.
Dates and place for the 47th edition are not known yet as the harbor change every year. The official announcement will be soon.
