The 1998 Junior and Senior X-Boat Championships were held on Lake Minnetonka. They drew a near record 134 boats. According to race coordinator, Dan Crear, over five hundred kids and parents attended the three day event raced in varying wind conditions.
The racing was intense and so was the bailing for at least one father, Bill Allen of Lake Minnetonka, who was caught on film in the boat bailing while skipper and crew steadied the boat in shallow water.
Andrew Keane and crew Daniel Thompson, both of White Bear Lake Sailing School won the junior title. Vincent Porter and his cousin, Brian Porter both of Lake Geneva Sailing School captured the senior honors.
