The text provides a background of where and for what purpose each ship was built. "Scantlings" for each vessel list technical specifications.

Published under the auspices of the American Sail Training Association in Newport, Rhode Island, Tall Ships highlights the rich history behind each vessel along with the educational role that many of these ships serve as teaching and research vessels and as goodwill ambassadors for their home ports.
