Well Known Regional Sailor Opens New Independent Sail Loft & Rigging Service

Open House & Ice Boat Swap Meet December 1st

Tim Carlson has dramatically expanded Sailcrafters sailmaking, repair, storage and rigging loft to include a dedicated building location.

Carlson, a 25 year veteran of the sailing industry, began his own sail loft several years ago as an addition to his full time manager role at Shorewood Yacht Club marina. According to Carlson, Sailcrafters has now expanded enough to require more space and time to serve increased sales volume and larger projects.

Carlson, who is probably best known for his parts knowledge and rigging work for many years at Seven Seas, will also be offering rigging services based out of the new loft location.

Sailcrafters builds new sails, using an independent sail designer with a precision computer cutting table, using US made materials that are assembled by Sailcrafters to create a totally U.S. built sail at a reasonable cost with quality control to ensure a perfect fit to your boat.

In addition to original Sailcrafters designs, Carlson represents new Doyle, Ullman and Waters sails utilizing a wide range of racing shapes and technical fabrics. According to Carlson, the best time to order new sails, and have repairs done is now through the end of the year, which is the slower season for sail makers.

Sailcrafters also offers sail storage at the loft with or without sail repair and inspection. Northern Breezes Sailing School drops off sails, sail covers, and other canvas needing repair for 19 boats after each season in the fall. “It’s a great investment in getting ready for spring launching, and ensuring we’re ready to go,” according to Captain Thom Burns, owner of Northern Breezes.

On Sunday, December 1st Sailcrafters is sponsoring an Open House and Ice Boat Swap Meet from 9 am to noon at their new loft location. Sailcrafters will provide snacks, drinks and space. Ice boat blades will be sharpened while you recount the past season’s highlights with your friends.
