Imagine a different cruising experience Tartan Yacht’s Custom Division releases T37 Deck House Sloop
If the weather is inclement or simply too hot and you’d prefer some air conditioning, the Tartan Custom 37 DH provides a welcome alternative. As cruising sailors, a lot of effort is spent making sailboats more comfortable under power, or sail. Large canvas structures are built to shield the crew from the
elements and at the end of the day; we still sit somewhat huddled up facing the wrong direction on a hard fiberglass seat. What about an alternative, a mid-sized cruising sailboat with a fully functional inside helm station with forward facing upholstered captain’s chairs and a 360 degree panoramic view? If the breeze is up and you prefer the aft cockpit, it can be built as either a lounging cockpit with autopilot controls or if some "wind and water in the face" is more your cup of tea, twin wheels. Under power, aided by some lifting foils, 10 knot performance is provided by a silky smooth 75 hp Volvo coupled to a saildrive and 4 blade folding prop nestled into the trailing edge of the keel. Under sail or under power, the 37 Deck House Sloop provides a level of operating comfort not found in most cruising sailboats.
The General Arrangement Plan is focused on the cruising couple or with the Galley up layout, provisions for guests in a separate cabin. Forward a centerline double berth provides "at home" sleeping comfort. The chef on board will appreciate the well appointed galley, with drawer style refrigerator, LPG stove and oven, microwave oven and ample counter space and storage. To starboard there is a large head with full stall shower stall befitting a much larger cruising boat. Onto the helm deck, to starboard is the full function inside helm station and to port there is a convenient nav/work desk, both with comfy captain’s chairs. The aft end of the helm deck spaces provide facing settees with a drop leaf table, both settees are sleeping berth length for additional guests. And of course the helm deck space enjoys an expanse of airiness provided by the large forward, side and aft windows, it’s hard to imagine a nicer place to enjoy being on the water.
The Deck House design also provides a great engine and systems space in the boat. Located below the helm deck sole, the main engine, batteries, tankage, air conditioning and other systems are all fit with easy access and maintainability in mind. Of course a side benefit to this location is that all of these "heavy" systems
are located deep in the hull and centrally located, adding to stability and reducing pitching moments.
The deck and rig are designed with maximum performance, functionality and ease of handling in mind. The cockpit can be confi gured with twin wheels for the traditionalist or as a comfortable lounging space, include a remote auto pilot control for an enjoyable afternoon sail. The side decks are wide, a Tartan tradition, allowing
easy and safe passage to all areas of the deck. Coupled with tall molded bulwarks, over length bow and stern rails and 27" lifelines, her crew will be safe on deck in all conditions. A wide array of opening stainless steel hatches and port lights provide additional light and ventilation to the cabin. The carbon fi ber rig is fi t with in boom
furling led to an electric winch for maximum convenience while maintaining great sailing performance and the self tacking headsail offers easy and effi cient tacking. Fit the headsail with electric furling and push button sailing becomes a reality.
The T37 Deck House Sloop is one of several designs being developed by Tim Jackett and the Tartan Design Team, and is available on a custom build basis. For additional information on this or other custom designs or projects.
