Wild Oats 7th Line Honour Victory

Just past 7 PM this evening, Maxi yacht Wild Oats XI earned her place in yachting history as she crossed the finish line for the 2013 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race in first place. The win marks the McConaghy built Reichel/Pugh design’s 7th line honours victory, equalling the record set by Morna/Kurrawa IV in the 1950’s and guaranteeing the 100-foot yacht’s reputation as one of the most accomplished racing yachts of all time.

A brilliant night of sailing saw the Oats team turn a 12nm deficit to the newer, more powerful Perpetual LOYAL into a 42nm lead at the finish; an important win for the 2005-built Wild Oats XI. “What an amazing boat she is!” said WOXI skipper Mark “Ricko” Richards, clearly elated with the result. “Here she is almost a decade old, and taking her 7th Hobart win - this is a truly special yacht and she means the world to all of us.”
