New skippers take the helm of Charlie’s Charts Cruising Guides

SEAL BEACH, CA January 12, 2011 -- CHARLIE’S CHARTS has been ‘telling cruisers where to go since 1982’ and that tradition continues with the purchase of the popular cruising guide series, by P & S Marine, LLC of Seal Beach, Calif.

Principals of P & S Marine - Captain Holly Scott and Jo Russell - are well-known and active in the California marine industry. Captain Scott, owner of Mahalo Sailing Instruction and Charters, is also a USCG licensed 100 Ton Master, USC on-the-water educator, West Marine consultant, and has been actively involved in women’s sailing for 30 years. Russell is the captain and owner of Ibiza, a Polaris 43, and has extensive experience in yacht maintenance, retrofits and passage-making.

The acquisition of CHARLIE’S CHARTS, a division of Polymath Energy Consultants Ltd., closes a chapter for Mrs. Margo Wood, who with her late husband Charles founded the collection - manifesting their love of cruising into an anthology of what would become the benchmark for cruising handbooks. CHARLIE’S CHARTS editions include U.S. PACIFIC COAST, WESTERN COAST OF MEXICO (INCLUDING BAJA), COSTA RICA, POLYNESIA, NORTH TO ALASKA, and HAWAIIAN ISLANDS

The hallmark of CHARLIE’S CHARTS is clean, uncluttered illustrations and clear descriptions of landmarks and destinations that make cruising new horizons straightforward and stress-free. “We appreciate the simplicity of CHARLIE’S CHARTS and the directness of it,” says lifelong sailor Scott, who has utilized the guides for years. “There are ‘blingier’ books out there, but when the going gets tough CHARLIE’s CHARTS is the easiest to read and comprehend.”

Wood adds, “I am confident the new owners will continue the publication of cruising guides that are informative, easy-to-use and provide current material for safe cruising. Although electronic navigation systems continue to advance at an amazing rate there is nothing as reassuring and comforting as a reliable, proven hard copy in hand when preparing for or experiencing the challenges of cruising in unknown waters.”

“We are so excited about continuing the good work that Charles and Margo started nearly 30 years ago,” Scott says, “and want to ensure CHARLIE’S CHARTS remain the most useful and beloved guides for cruisers, for years to come.”
