Madison, WI, June 15, 2011: PaddleBoard Specialists, the Madison, WI. based retailer of Standup Paddleboards and accessories is sponsoring the first Midwest Standup Paddle Festival at the Maple Bluff Beach, 401 Lakewood Blvd., on Saturday, July 9, 2011. The days’ events begin at 8:30am with lessons, clinics, demos and races suitable for all ability levels from beginners to advanced paddlers scheduled throughout the day. Advance registration is recommended.
Standup Paddleboarding—which involves the paddler standing on a large surfboard with a long paddle--is an ancient Hawaiian sport that’s gained worldwide popularity in recent years. “It’s incredibly easy to learn, a great core workout, affordable and fun for all ages,” says Paddleboard Specialists owner Gary Stone. “This will be a fun family event where people can try paddleboarding, see it in action and just enjoy a unique day on beautiful Lake Mendota.”
Over a dozen leaders in the industry—including Starboard, Surftech, Hobie, Tahoe SUP, Bark, Amundson, Naish, NSP, Bic, Werner, Quickblade & Kialoa--will be supplying test gear, lessons and advice with net proceeds benefiting the American Family Children’s Hospital.
Capping off the event will be a picnic dinner followed at dusk by the outdoor showing of the 2010 film “Destination 3º (Degrees)” which chronicles the adventures of two women as they crossed all nine of Hawaii’s open-ocean channels by standup paddleboard.
