NEW PELICAN HOOK BOASTS SMART, EASY-TO-USE DESIGN

When used to secure lifeline gates, pelican hooks are often difficult to engage and release under load. The new Over Center Cast Gate Hook from Johnson Marine solves this problem. Because of this and other advantages, it recently received an honorable mention in the DAME product awards at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam.

Most hook designs place the load on the hinged, moving part of the hook. However, the over-center design of the new Johnson model places the load squarely on the hook itself. This allows the unit to open and close easily while maintaining line tension. It also reduces the chance of injury or accident by minimizing stress on the plunger pin responsible for keeping the hook closed. Another unique feature is a “claw extractor,” which helps ease line tension as the unit is disengaged.

Made of rugged, investment cast 316 stainless steel, the hook is hand polished to a beautiful finish. It comes in versions that attach to lifeline wire by machine swage or hand crimp processes. Swage models fit 1/8", 5/32", 3/16" and 1/4" wire, while hand crimp models accept 1/8" or 3/16" wire.

Suggested retail price for the patent-pending Johnson Over Center Cast Gate Hook starts at $41 for the swage model that handles 1/8" wire.
