New Gen-Set Design Does a Big Favor For Small Boat Owners
Boat owners who would like to have AC power onboard their smaller craft have been plagued by the problem of installing a generator in a limited amount of space. Now, Next Generation Power offers a solution to this problem with its DeckGen 2.4 and 3.5-KW diesel generators.
These unique new 2,400 and 3,500-watt deck gen-sets, with fully marinized Kubota diesel engines, are vertically oriented. In this patented configuration, the generator portion fits below deck where air from the engine compartment allows it to breathe; the engine is above deck and covered by a waterproof fiberglass box. This design also makes it possible for the unit to fit in a hanging locker on a sailboat, with or without the fiberglass enclosure.
The 2.4 KW model weighs 140 pounds and will run a 5-7,000 BTU air conditioner with power to spare. The 3.5 KW set can operate up to a 16,000 BTU A/C unit and weighs just 160 pounds. Owners can add about 20 pounds for the step box.
All DeckGen gen-sets are available with an ignition protection certification option so that they may be used in gasoline-powered vessels, as well as diesel craft.

New Bridle Keeps Inner Forestay Safely Out of the Way
When a sailor releases the inner forestay to change a sail, the loose stay cable has a tendency to swing around, get in the way and even cause damage or injury. The new Inner Forestay Stowage Bridle from Johnson Marine eliminates this problem by keeping the loose stay properly secured.
The bridle is a 4” long, curved tube that forms an arc of roughly 30 degrees. To use it, the sailor simply attaches the end of the stay to the base of the mast, or other convenient location. He slots the stay cable into the bridle tube and pulls it away from the mast until all slack is removed. Then he ties one end of a line to the bridle eye and the other end to a nearby stanchion, railing, cleat or other convenient object. This maintains the tension on the cable and keeps it in one place.
Made of hand-polished 316 stainless steel, the Inner Forestay Stowage Bridle is designed to look nice and last for years in the harsh marine environment. It handles cable up to 1/2”.
